33 Ways BookCybersecurity

Empowering People By Demystifying Cyber Risk

When you invest in cybersecurity for your organization, your drive to protect your data and business motivates you to learn, improve, and implement your strategy. Remember that your organization’s capability and maturity level do not stop with technology. Invest in your people, beyond the technology, to create a culture of good cyber hygiene with less chance for human error. People matter in every aspect of cybersecurity. – Dawn Kristy, 33 WAYS NOT TO SCREW UP CYBERSECURITY (published June 2022).

Recently, the assault on our overall health, mental health, and spirit have been relentless. My clients and people attending my training presentations express their fears about cybercrime and scams. They face challenges in thinking clearly and deliberately under stress or during distractions while working from home. These scenarios could cause human error, the root cause of many cyberattacks. Similarly, recent surveys indicate that more than half of business leaders report feeling unable to stop cyber threats.

After a decade of working in the cyber risk and insurance trenches, business owners reached out for help on two fronts: preventing cyberattacks and cyber resilience if attacked. Through that lens, my vision became clear: EMPOWERING PEOPLE BY DEMYSTIFYING CYBER RISK.

Right now, we have an opportunity to empower people through training on the best way to act online — while working from anywhere (WFA) – by developing a cybersecurity mindset.

We have a security mindset in many aspects of our lives while crossing the street, driving, swimming, cooking, and lighting a fire. We learn about safety precautions and follow them as best we can. When we fail, an accident or injury may occur.

I hope to fulfill my mission to advise business executives and business owners about cyber resilience in the face of ever-evolving cyberattacks based on awareness, behavior, and communication.

As cyberspace rapidly evolves, you and your employees will likely struggle to stay current on cybersecurity’s human and technical sides. The attacks can devastate businesses, employees, customers, or their families victimized by cybercrime.

But there’s hope! Just ask.
