#33 Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Here is an excerpt from my book – the 33rd Way or Chapter — to help you improve your cyber hygiene in the new year.

What is Cybersecurity Awareness Training

Cybersecurity awareness goes one step beyond technical cybersecurity processes. It is the combination of people knowing and acting to protect business information and assets. When organizations train employees to be cybersecurity aware, they understand what cyber threats are, the potential impact a cyberattack will have on their business, and the steps required to reduce cyber risks and prevent cybercrime, working online in all work environments.”

The Book for Businesses, Employees, and Vendors

The award-winning 33 Ways Not To Screw Up Cybersecurity provides readers with a solid cyber-secure foundation by offering scenarios and checklists in 33 short, easy-to-read chapters or “ways.” The book is available on Amazon in paperback https://www.amazon.com/dp/1955750327, as an eBook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3H876PS, or on Kindle Unlimited.

We offer the book to affinity groups in cyber, privacy, insurance, and company culture and attendees at workshops, conferences, and Lunch & Learn training sessions.

We encourage you to follow author Dawn Kristy on Amazon and Goodreads and to do a book review to contribute to the growth of knowledge sharing within the cybersecurity community.

Heather L. Noggle, advocate and amplifier for human cybersecurity, noted in her book review: “2023 will be the year we learn more about cybersecurity. We’ll choose which way – because we are curious and want to be better defenders or because we are breached or know someone who was…and we’re curious and needy that way.

So start now – Dawn’s book is an excellent “short lesson format” list of things to know. Bring your curiosity and not your fear. There are actionable, non-technowizardry-esque takeaways to help you become better at cybersecurity. Tell all your friends!”

Cybersecurity is a Human Game

The importance of cybersecurity increases annually. As a business leader, do you know where to begin?

Start by encouraging your people to protect their personal information. From there, you can build a cyber-secure culture in your organization. The game is collaboration. The teams are looking for online security in all work environments.

Once you have experienced a data breach or ransomware attack, you will become emotionally invested as a victim, seeking to mitigate losses and improve security practices.

The better path is to be proactive, understand more, and strengthen your cybersecurity practices and culture before you suffer an attack.
